Where to See Free Outdoor Movies Around Philly This Summer

This summer, dozens of free outdoor movies will pop up in Philadelphia. Here’s where you can catch a free showing or two, courtesy of a roundup by the PhillyVoice

cinéSPEAK Under the Stars

This series in Clark Park features films off the regular rotation. Audiences can expect to see documentaries on the Florida Everglades and Sally Ride. A thematically complementary movie short precedes each showing. 

Food and live music begins at 7 p.m. In case of rain, the movie showing will be held the following Saturday.

  • Friday, June 13: “Assembly”

Movies in Clark Park

The University City District will feature movies at sundown at the Clark Park Bowl during the first four Fridays of August. Film showings may be canceled due to storms, high winds, or overly wet conditions.

  • Friday, Aug. 8: “Clueless”
  • Friday, Aug. 15: “Madagascar”
  • Friday, Aug. 22: “Creed”

Movies on the Mall

Independence National Historical Park will feature pre-show games and activities beginning at 5:30 p.m. Food and drink will be available at Liberty Garden. While each screening is free, registration is encouraged.

  • Friday, Aug. 22: “National Treasure”
  • Friday, Sept. 19: “National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets”

Movie Nights at Schuylkill Banks

The east side of the Schuylkill River is where you’ll want to be for free movies on Thursday nights. Schuylkill Banks will hold 10 screenings, switching off between the park’s Grays Ferry Crescent Esplanade and a grass patch north of the Walnut Street Bridge. Shows begin at sundown.
