Taco Caballito in Cape May
There are few things I love more than the trifecta of tacos, tequila, and being back in one of my favorite beach towns—Cape May. So when my husband and I recently found ourselves seaside, we knew exactly where to go: Taco Caballito at 429 Beach Avenue. And friends, let me tell you… it did not disappoint.
If you’ve been to Taco Caballito before, you might remember it as a cozy little Mexican spot with solid food and margaritas that could erase your to-do list. But now? After a major interior glow-up, it’s giving less “quiet taco night” and more “Cancún-meets-Cape May nightclub”—and I am so here for it.
We’re talking colorful lighting, a full stage for open mics and live music, and a whole new energy that says: “Yes, we serve salsa… but we also serve vibes.”
First Course: Nachos and Reality TV
We started strong with the loaded nachos, which were piled higher than my list of Bravo hot takes. Gooey cheese, fresh jalapeños, the perfect crunch-to-sauce ratio—it was a spiritual experience.
But let’s not skip over our waiter, who genuinely looked like Andrea Denver from Summer House. Tall, dark, Italian-model handsome. And his name? Andrea. I mean… am I saying it was him? No. Am I saying it wasn’t? Also no. By the time we got to round two (fine, four) of Casamigos shots—which were definitely doubles and definitely life-changing—I was ready to ask for a selfie and a signed Loverboy can.
Tacos & Tequila: The Life Motto We All Deserve
The second you walk into Taco Caballito, you’re met with a sign that reads: “Tacos & Tequila.” Which is basically the grown-up version of “Live, Laugh, Love” but with way better outcomes. We leaned in hard, chasing tacos with tequila like the responsible adults we are.
And while I should have stopped at one round, the margaritas—and the music—were just too good. The night turned into a spontaneous party, the kind you can only have in Cape May, where you’re walking distance from the ocean and one good laugh away from joining a band onstage.
Final Thoughts from the Tequila-Soaked Trenches
If you’re headed to Cape May this summer and looking for more than just beach chairs and fudge shops, Taco Caballito is a must-visit. And if you’re lucky, your waiter might just be Andrea Denver—or at least tequila-goggled enough that it doesn’t matter.
So grab your crew, order the nachos, and don’t question the pour size on your Casamigos. Cape May nightlife just found its new hotspot.
